A. Scott Parry has garnered critical praise for his work in both Opera and Musical Theatre throughout the country. His productions have spanned an enormous range of repertoire, including such diverse works as West Side Story, Madama Butterfly, South Pacific, La bohème, La traviata, La Cage aux Folles, Lucia di Lammermoor, Dido and Aeneas, Macbeth, and many others. Scott also conceived of, designed, and directed the world première production of 'I lavori d’amore persi', a compilation of music theatre fragments by Claudio Monteverdi for the Bloomington Early Music Festival. He has served on the faculty of Indiana University in Bloomington, where he had previously received his Master’s degree in Opera Stage Direction, and headed the Musical Theatre program at Mesa Community College in Phoenix, Arizona. He has worked with many of today’s leading performers and directors such as Franz Gründheber, Ken Cazan, Tazewell Thompson, Renaud Ducet, Tito Capobianco, Nathalie Dessay, Denyce Graves, Rod Gilfry, Richard Croft, Vivica Genaux, and Nathan Gunn, and has associations with such companies as New York City Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Dallas Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Chicago Opera Theater, and Chautauqua Opera. As a composer, he premiered his song cycle 'On the Impracticality and Sure Impossibility of Perpetually Uncomplicated and Everlasting Love' at NYC's Singer's Forum and has just completed an English language libretto adaptation of 'La Mère Coupable' by Beaumarchais, which is currently being set to music.
